Tailights

Lights on the road Tail light place holders With red thoughts In closets Humming What song was that? I wish I could sing it I wish I could get off this road There’s more to the night Dark sloping mountains Like the curve of a woman’s back For As long as I can remember But here we race Barely moving The tickertape line Barely moving And the star-march median The only dance Of a soft satin viper Sink your teeth into my dreams I can’t escape I’m barely moving Barely moving

I am not different

Posted By in Uncategorized

I am not different from the other people of my race I am not more articulate More educated More urbane. I am not an example of what they could be if they only tried harder. If they were more educated. If they worked harder. If they valued education. If they were more like me. If they moved out of the ethnic enclave. I am not an oddity for speaking English so well for being able to read and write like my parents before me. You speak slowly, asking Do … You … Speak … English?

It Is What We Make of It

Posted By in Uncategorized

This is going to be a somewhat eclectic post, with no real insight or conclusion from me (yes, I know, I know), but I think that there are some connections here that perhaps somebody (or even my future self) can make. Thanks to an email from one of my school board members, I ran across this article at the Washington Post: The 44-year-old Nort

Twisted Poetry: Episode X

Posted By in Uncategorized

The Cereal Troll Deep in the cabinet in a cereal bowl Lives a rarified scarified Cereal Troll. He’s rumbly and grumbly early in the morn But before you feed him to you I must warn. Don’t give him any of the natural organic healthy gunk The Cereal Troll only goes for the junk. If you try to give him Grape-Nuts, or Kaschi Go-Lean, He’ll spit blood from his eyes and get really mean. Don’t give him Total or Shredded Wheat Or he’ll jump off the cupboard and stomp on your feet. And if you

Dark Clouds On The Eastern Horizon?

Posted By in Uncategorized

The Summer Olympics in Beijing, which start on August 8, 2008, will attract many wealthy Chinese, many of whom may have otherwise visited Las Vegas to gamble, given the fortunate date of 8-8-08. The casinos have long recognized that the Chinese love to gamble and they consider losses from Chinese tourists to be a major part of their profits and bottom-line every year. The Chinese New Year typically puts more money into the casino’s coffers than even our Western traditional New Year’s. This reduc
