Synopsis: The world has moved on, thanks to climate change, a worldwide oil shortage, and population devastation from superbugs, and in one small corner of New York State, the world is being rebuilt by hand. Review: Anyone who spends much time with me will eventually learn that I am obsessed with The Long Emergency, one of World Made By Hand author James Kunstler’s non-fiction treatises. I have always been drawn to the apocalyptic, and now that I am a mother I can worry about the world my da

I chose not to rhyme because it is not neccassary to rhyme in today’s poem culture. It is considered a somewhat immature to rhyme in poetry. A rhymed poem for all the folks who wanted it A cat chased a rat The rat had a bat The rat hit the cat In the head with a bat The cat had a bruise At night he could not snooze He turned out the fuse No, No snooze Now the cat hates the rat And he hates the bat The rat loves the bat That made the cat stop chasing the rat Now…you decide, which p

Spring seems particularly spectacular this year! APRIL IN MAINE The days are cold and brown, Brown fields, no sign of green, Brown twigs, not even swelling, And dirty snow in the woods. But as the dark flows in The tree frogs begin Their shrill sweet singing, And we lie on our beds Through the ecstatic night, Wide awake, cracked open. There will be no going back. - MAY SARTON -

April showers don’t just bring May flowers! A whole lot of fun things are going to happen in May, here at Guerrilla Parenting! It’s called “May Madness” and I have a few tricks up my sleeve (insert evil laugh here.) We will be featuring a project called “Three Doors Down,” which highlights our neighboring blogs here at the B5 Lifestyles Channel. The neighbors don’t know it yet, but I’m about to get up close and way too personal when I conduct mini interviews with each of them. Ohhhhhh….Juicy

It is the end of the academic year, or almost. I have classes tomorrow and my final class on Monday. We have finals for almost two weeks and then graduation on the 18th. It has been a strange year, with some very deep and dark lows and some strange highs. I’ve gone from a sense of despair as I received another rejection for one of my articles and I became convinced I would never have a chance at getting tenure; this despair faded when I unexpectedly found another article a home. Neverthel

I was ten. And sick. And lying in bed with a fever. And a bad attitude. My parents had just split up and we had just moved to Virginia to…get away from it all, I guess? We decorated the apartment with what we had brought with us. And my mom decorated her bedroom according to the times. Lots of reds and purples and beads and silk and velvet. That day I stayed home from school, I was in her bed. “I made this chicken soup for you!” “I don’t want it!” “Eat it! It’ll be good for you.” “No!”

Interesting article here. I spent so much time studying this in college and beyond. I may have to revisit a few favorite text books tonight. It’s such a fascinating and tragic story. I’m not whining, I promise I’m not, but by way of explanation (as I feel particularly boring lately) my mouth still hurts and it’s zapping my energy and spark. I saw the dentist yesterday and he can do nothing to speed my recovery. I am feeling awfully sad for those people who are in constant, nagging pain from an

T. S. Eliot wrote, “April is the cruelest month” as the W.H.O.* calls Migraine one of the cruelest diseases MAGNUM thinks it is only quite fitting to end the month with our announcement of this years winners of the HealthCentral Network sponsored 2008 Putting Our Heads Together Poetry Contest. After all would not T.S. Eliot himself, though not a Migraineur, appreciate our effort? He deeply loved his wife Vivien Haigh, an adventurous and vivacious British subject, who sadly suffered horribly from
